The much awaited ability to copy code from the code view is available thanks to Iqaan - a new contributor to codeSHOW. The ad functionality was improved to serve custom ads from Azure if an ad is not available. The Netflix demos were removed (because Netflix killed their API). And a number of other demos were added.

2013-02-26 - added demos I am adding demos in preparation for the upcoming JumpStart through the Microsoft Virtual Academy. WAMS Push, Discover, and Components have been added so far.

2013-02-05 - codeSHOW is now using git! I finally had some time to go on a romantic excursion with git and fall in love like I knew I would. So codeSHOW is now converted to git. I expect lots of support from all of you git experts out there. I also expect you to fork away and issue some pull requests. I'd love to include some crowd sourced demos!

2013-01-02 - the second release is live in the store now! The store team has been amazing. Good support. It turns out the problems were all mine too. If finally succeeded when I employed my wife to test the full breadth of the app and she found some hidden bugs for me. Remote debugging in Visual Studio 2012 was awesome for this. I just hit F5 and it launches codeSHOW on her Surface (wirelessly of course) and when she hits a bug it breaks in VS on my machine! Sweet.

2012-12-24 - the second release has failed a couple of times :( I thought I had found all of the pain points, but the good people in the certification process have apparently found some more. I think I have the last of them and it's been submitted again. Look forward to a much easier switch between code and demo modes. Thanks for using codeSHOW.

2012-12-17 - codeSHOW second release (coming soon!) I just submitted an update to codeSHOW in the Store. It should be available soon. I fixed a couple of bugs and add demos for Bing Maps and for making a div slide in from off screen.

2012-12-03 - codeSHOW is in the Store! You can go to http://aka.ms/codeshowapp or search the Store to get it. I have already been introduced to a couple of minor bugs in the app, so another update is coming soon complete with new and newly improved demos. Thanks for downloading and using codeSHOW.
Project Description
This is a Windows 8 HTML/JS project with the express goal of demonstrating simple development concepts for the Windows 8 platform. This is not a project to learn about end-to-end app architecture, but when you're looking for how to do things like access the camera, implement an asymmetric ListView, or handle errors look to codeSHOW.
To see what's new with codeSHOW, visit the news page.

How to download the codeSHOW source code
First of all, don't go to the downloads tab! That's for installing software releases and codeSHOW doesn't have a release. It's just source code right now.
There are two paths you can take for getting the source code: you can download it as a zip file or you can clone it using Git. If you download it as a zip file, you will always have the version you downloaded. If you clone it using Git, then you can easily pull changes down into your project, so I recommend the latter. Regardless, I'll explain how to do both...

Downloading the zip file

go to the Source Code tab

look for the download link under the main menu bar on the right and whack it

unzip the downloaded file... if you don't know how to unzip a file, you've got bigger problems

Cloning using Git

install Git (easiest way on Windows is to install GitHub for Windows)

go to the Source Code tab

open Git Shell, browse to your development folder, and run "git clone https://git01.codeplex.com/codeshow" (a new folder called codeSHOW will be created for you by default)

.then()
Regardless of which method you use to get the code down to your system, you'll want to do this afterward...

open the codeshow\packages folder

install all of the SDKs included there

now open the .sln file in Visual Studio 2012 and have fun!

One more note about the SDKs. You install the SDKs to fulfill the References that you'll find in the project. In the Solution Explorer, you'll see the References folder and the references in there are based on these SDKs. If you don't install an SDK, then you'll have to remove the reference. If there is code that depends on a reference then your project won't build and the Errors Pane will start screaming bloody murder.
By the way, these SDKs are updated from time to time. If you get a new version of the code (by either downloading it or by pulling changes) and you start running into errors, then you may need to update one of the SDKs by simply running the installation from the packages folder again

Privacy Policy (aka "Legal Stuff")
The codeSHOW app requests access to internet to provide access for various demos in the project, but neither the app itself or any of the demos in the app collect, store, or share any identifying information from users. Rest assured that your privacy is respected. If you would like to report any violation of this policy, you can contact any of the project contributors.

Updated Wiki: Home

codeSHOW in the Windows 8 Store
Go to http://aka.ms/codeshowapp to install codeSHOW from the Windows 8 Store

Let me know if you have good ideas for good demos that may be of benefit to others.

Updated Wiki: News

News
*2012-02-05 - codeSHOW is not using git! I finally had some time to go on a romantic excursion with git and fall in love like I knew I would. So codeSHOW is now converted to git and I expect lots of support from all of you git experts out there. I also expect you to fork away and issue some pull requests. I'd love to include some crowd sourced demos!

2012-01-02 - the second release is live in the store now!

I fixed a couple of bugs and add demos for Bing Maps and for making a div slide in from off screen.

2012-12-03 - codeSHOW is in the Store! You can go to http://aka.ms/codeshowapp or search the Store to get it.

How to install the codeSHOW source code
First of all, don't go to the downloads tab! That's for installing software releases and codeSHOW doesn't have a release. It's just source code right now. So do this...

go to the Source Code tab

look for the download link under the main menu bar on the right and whack it

unzip the downloaded file... if you don't know how to unzip a file, you've got bigger problems

open the bin folder

install each of the SDKs... that includes...

azuresdk-win8-v0.2.3.msi

LiveSDK

W8AdSDK-ENU.msi

Bing.Maps.vsix

now open the .sln file in Visual Studio 2012 and have fun!

One more note about the SDKs. You install the SDKs to fulfill the References that you'll find in the project. In the Solution Explorer, you'll see the References folder and the references in there are based on these SDKs. If you don't install an SDK, then you'll have to remove the reference. If there is code that depends on a reference then your project won't build and the Errors Pane will start screaming your name.
By the way, these SDKs are updated from time to time. If you get a new version of the code (by either downloading it or by doing a Get Latest) and you start running into errors, then you may need to update one of the SDKs. The easiest way to access them is by right clicking on the solution (in Solution Explorer) and choosing Open Folder in File Explorer.

Updated Wiki: News

News
2012-12-24 - the second release has failed a couple of times :( I thought I had found all of the pain points, but the good people in the certification process have apparently found some more.

LiveSDK

W8AdSDK-ENU.msi

now open the .sln file in Visual Studio 2012 and have fun!

Privacy Policy (aka "Legal Stuff")
The codeSHOW app requests access to internet to provide access for various demos in the project, but neither the app itself or any of the demos in the app collect, store, or share any identifying information from users.
